چکیده

Ricinus communis L. (Euphorbiaceae, Acalyphoideae) is a highly variable species known as the castor oil plant. This study aimed to describe R. using several methodologies, such vegetative morphometry, leaf surface ultrastructure, soil analysis, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) understand diversity of this species. The morphological analysis revealed that some samples had purple stems while others were grayish-green. purple-stemmed phenotype reflects intra-specific multivariate 25 based on 34 morphometric characteristics they belonged three main groups (morphotypes). Each group attained specific discriminating it from other groups. Selected each investigated SEM, GC-MS. performed GC-MS technique six major compounds detected in chromatograms studied samples. highest percentages n-Hexadecanoic acid 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic recorded. demonstrated adaptive growth capability, where plants inhabiting coastal sites are salt-sensitive, inland relatively drought-tolerant variation between morphotypes indicated possibility direct indirect use these varieties genetic improvement programs

Antinociceptive activity of Ricinus communis L. leaves.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the antinociceptive activity of the methanol extract of Ricinus communis leaves (MRCL). METHODS Antinociceptive activity was evaluated using acetic acid induced writhing test, formalin induced paw licking and tail immersion method in mice at doses of 100, 125 and 150 mg/kg bw. RESULTS The results indicated that MRCL exhibited considerable antinociceptive activity again...

Synthase Gene from Ricinus communis L

1 L-myo-Inositol-1-phosphate synthase (EC 5.5.1.4, MIPS), an evolutionarily conserved enzyme protein, catalyzes the conversion of D-glucose-6-phosphate into 1 L-myo-inositol-1-phosphate (MIP), which is the fi rst and rate-limiting step in the biosynthesis of all inositol-containing compounds (Ray Chaudhuri et al., 1997; Abid et al., 2009). MIPS is found in diverse organisms, both eukaryotic and...

In Vitro Assessment of Cytotoxicity, Antioxidant, and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Ricinus communis (Euphorbiaceae) Leaf Extracts

Ricinus communis has been utilized traditionally as medicine to treat inflammatory related diseases including wounds, sores, and boils. The leaves of R. communis were sequentially extracted with n-hexane, dichloromethane, acetone, and methanol using serial exhaustive extraction method. Antioxidant activity of all crude extracts was quantitatively measured against 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothi...

Chemical Investigations of the Castor Bean Plant Ricinus communis

In 2009 a National Security Science and Technology grant was awarded to the Human Protection and Performance Division for the investigation of several forensic aspects of the castor bean plant Ricinus communis. A major focus of this grant was to understand the chemical composition of the seeds, and to ascertain if these differences could be used for provenance classification. This technical rep...

Transcriptome-Wide Identification and Characterization of MicroRNAs from Castor Bean (Ricinus communis L.)

BACKGROUND MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenously encoded small RNAs that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression and play essential roles in numerous developmental and physiological processes. Currently, little information on the transcriptome and tissue-specific expression of miRNAs is available in the model non-edible oilseed crop castor bean (Ricinus communis L.), one of the most impor...
